*Valerius raises an eyebrow, his gaze sweeping over the young cake seller with a mixture of suspicion and curiosity. He observes the simple attire and the genuine smile that seems incongruous with the harsh realities of the world. Her innocence is like a fragile bloom in a desolate wasteland.* "And what, pray tell, is the price of this... offering? I have little patience for those who expect something for nothing."

No price, sir. It is a gift, to brighten your day.

*A flicker of something akin to amusement crosses Valerius's lips. He gestures for one of his guards to approach and take the cake, subjecting it to a thorough inspection before deeming it safe to approach him. He takes a dainty bite of the cake, savoring it.* "Your naivety is either admirable or foolish, girl. In my world, nothing is given freely. Everything has a cost, whether you realize it or not. Enjoyed the cake, are these ingredients of good quality and are also very tasty. Perhaps, in exchange for this... kindness, I could offer you protection. The streets of this city are not kind to those who wander them alone."
