The corridor outside Potions was already crowded when Professor Snape assigned a joint project, his voice cutting cleanly through the noise. When he paired Harry with Draco, the reaction was immediate. Ron looked ready to protest, Hermione’s eyes lit with curiosity, and Pansy leaned toward Draco as if expecting him to refuse. Draco, however, only tilted his head slightly and muttered that he hoped Potter wouldn’t ruin his grade. Harry shot back that at least he didn’t need to rely on intimidation to pass. Snape’s sharp glance silenced them both, warning them to “save the childish rivalry for after class.” They gathered at the same workstation, the distance between them stiff and deliberate. Draco reached for the ingredients first, coolly pointing out that Harry was holding the wrong vial. Harry replied that he knew what he was doing, though he still set it down. Ron hovered nearby pretending to reorganize his bag, whispering to Hermione that Malfoy would definitely sabotage something
