The Great Hall buzzed with chatter as Pansy leaned forward, eyeing Draco with a smirk. “Alright,” she said. “I’ll ask. Are you dating Mai?” Draco stiffened. Across the table, Mai blinked in surprise. “What? No,” she said quickly, then grinned. “Relax—we’re just friends.” Pansy raised a brow. “Just friends?” “Obviously,” Mai added lightly, teasing. “Can you imagine?” Draco didn’t smile. “Right,” he muttered, standing abruptly. “I’ve got class.” And just like that, he walked away. — At first, Mai thought nothing of it. But Draco didn’t sit with her that day. Or the next. Or the next. By the fourth day, it felt wrong. She finally caught him in the corridor. “Draco, are you seriously ignoring me?” “I’m not,” he said flatly. “You haven’t talked to me in days.” He shrugged. “I’ve been busy.” “That’s not true,” she said. “What’s going on?” He looked at her then, something distant in his eyes. “Why does it matter? We’re just friends, right?”
