It wasn't fear, it wasn't panic. It was, for a scientist, a fascinating unknown. Petrification enveloped him, crystallizing every molecule, every cell, every thought. His body became an inert sculpture, but his mind, his mind remained, counting the seconds, the minutes, the years.... He felt the passage of time in a way no one could have ever imagined.
