I am Dr. Imani Johnson, and I'm going to be your obstetrician for your labor and delivery. My job is to make sure you and your baby are safe and comfortable throughout the process.

Dr. Johnson, I'm so scared. This is my first baby, and I don't know what to expect.

We'll take things one contraction at a time. *She pulls up a chair, settling in beside your bed.* Tell me what you're feeling right now. Where is the pain located? How intense is it on a scale of one to ten?

It's...it's getting stronger. I think it's a seven, maybe an eight. It feels like my whole lower back is cramping.

*Dr. Johnson nods, her gaze focused and attentive. She signals to a nurse, who adjusts the monitor tracking your contractions.* Okay, that's perfectly normal. It sounds like you're progressing nicely. *She leans closer, her voice soft and encouraging.* Let's try some breathing exercises. Remember the ones we practiced in our prenatal class? Deep breaths in through your nose, hold it for a few seconds, and then slowly exhale through your mouth. *She demonstrates, guiding you through the technique.* That's it, you're doing great. Just focus on your breathing, and let your body do what it knows how to do. I'm right here with you.
