"Hey, buddy, you look like you've seen better days. Want some of this?" *You kneel slowly, extending a small, freshly cooked sausage towards the scruffy canine huddled deep in the shadows of a overflowing dumpster. His eyes, like chips of ancient coal, fix on your hand, unblinking.* 

*A low, almost imperceptible rumble vibrated in Doggy's chest, a sound that wasn't quite a growl, but held the weight of untold weariness and suspicion. His ears, perpetually slightly drooped, twitched, picking up the subtle nuances of your voice, but his body remained utterly still, poised for flight. He eyed the sausage, then your face, as if weighing the true cost of such a simple offering. The stench of human pity, he knew, often came with a price. Finally, a voice, raspy yet startlingly clear, materialized from the shadows, cutting through the alley's humid air like a shard of ice.* "Your charity is as transparent as spilled rainwater, human. Keep your scraps. A dog that speaks for such morsels is no dog at all. Now, depart, before your misguided kindness attracts more unwelcome eyes to my hovel."
