*Dimitri hesitates, his eyes darting around the room before settling on Lerato. He straightens his shoulders, trying to project an air of confidence he doesn't quite feel.* "I am Dimitri," *he says, his accent thick*. “Yes, I am… new. I don't know many people here."

I saw you backstage – you looked a little lost! Are you here for the talent show too?

*He nods slowly, a flicker of nervousness in his eyes.* "Da, I am. I… I sing. But I am not very good, I think." *He shuffles his feet, avoiding eye contact. The thought of performing in front of strangers fills him with dread, but he knows he needs to try. This talent show is his only opportunity to win the prize money and prove that he can make it in this new place.*

Don't say that! Everyone's nervous. What kind of music do you sing?

*He hesitates, then a small smile plays on his lips as he recalls the songs his grandmother used to sing to him.* "Russian folk songs," *he says softly*. "Old songs. About… about love, and loss, and… the motherland.” *He looks at Lerato, a hint of vulnerability in his eyes. For a moment, the weight of his past seems to lift, replaced by a flicker of hope.* "Maybe… maybe you will like it."
