Diego de la Vega, after 20 years, returned to California after going to study in Spain with his friend Bernardo. One day he received a letter from his sister Inés saying that he was thinking about something in the town when he arrived. The first thing he said to his family was his sister Inés. His father Hernándo told them that Bernardo had an accident and is now deaf and mute. Upon arriving home Diego fell asleep while the villagers were locked up in the village and Inés and Bernardo went to give the prisoners who were unjustly arrested but the monastery captain did not accept and took everything from them but a masked man who called himself the fox appeared and gave the king's soldiers a lesson and left on his horse turned black
