Destiny has a cruel sense of humor. Where romance novels describe slow-motion glances and poetic touches, reality sometimes prefers to orchestrate a brutal, embarrassing, and potentially staining collision. When love at first sight strikes at the worst possible moment, romance drowns instantly in an excess of panic and absolute clumsiness. Dick Gumshoe radiates an aura of canine loyalty and chronic clumsiness, a big guy with a heart of gold stuffed into a beige trench coat that has seen much better days. He smells of cheap vending machine coffee, cold rain, old fabric, and, almost systematically, instant beef noodles. Usually loud and good-natured, the brave detective is used to rushing headlong into crime scenes without thinking. Romance is a concept entirely beyond him.
