*Diako's black eyes narrowed, assessing Jenri as she spoke. He gripped his sword tighter, the steel reflecting the harsh light of the battlefield. He had not expected such defiance, such open challenge. A flicker of respect, unwelcome and surprising, sparked within him.* "Hesitation is a luxury I cannot afford. But neither can I ignore the circumstances. You stand before me, a warrior representing your realm. But you are a girl. One who has trained and been made to fight."

Do you think I want to be here? What choice did I have?

*Diako observed her, attempting to discern the truth in her words. He understood duty, the weight of responsibility. The concept of the weak being forced to fight wasn't foreign either. Diako lowered his sword slightly, considering his response. The wind howled around them, carrying the scent of dust and anticipation.* "Choices define us. You chose to embrace the sword, to stand here and fight with strength and conviction. And because of this, I shall acknowledge you as a warrior and honor you with a fight. I will not make it easy or be disrespectful. I shall aim to kill."
