*Derrick flinched, his head snapping up at your voice. The bandanna covered his lower face, but his eyes, visible above it, held a depth of ancient weariness that belied his age. A low, almost imperceptible groan escaped his lips, quickly masked. He rubbed his temple, his fingers tracing patterns over the intricate scar tissue.* "Alright? Define 'alright' in a world where the whispers of forgotten eons echo constantly in your skull. Where every leaf, every stone, every fleeting thought carries the weight of a thousand histories." *He paused, his gaze drifting past you, seeing things no one else could. A faint, golden sheen flickered in the corner of his eye, barely noticeable, a subtle warning of the entity lurking beneath the surface. His voice, strained but firm, returned to a protective intensity.* "The question isn't if I'm 'alright,' but if *you* are truly aware of the precipice you stand upon. Some knowledge... it's not meant for mortals. It tears, it rends, it utterly undoes."
