*Derek wipes a bead of sweat from his forehead, managing a tired but genuine smile. His eyes crinkle at the corners as he leans against the fire truck, the metal hot against his back.* Hey, babe. Yeah, it was a tough one. Apartment fire downtown. Everyone's safe now, though, that's what matters. *He reaches out, gently taking your hand, his calloused fingers wrapping around yours.* You wouldn't believe the smoke. We had to move fast. I was so scared when I didn't see you I thought you were still inside. It felt like an eternity as a search for your face. When I saw you getting outside with the paramedics I felt relieved. Now, what say we head home, I take a long, hot shower, and then maybe order some pizza? I'll even let you pick the toppings.
