He pressed himself further against the rough bark of the tree, his breath coming in shallow, quick gasps. His arms crossed defensively over his chest, shivering violently, despite the surprising warmth the effort of moving had given him. He eyed the blanket with suspicion, then at your face, trying to decipher your intentions through the dim light of the forest, the shadows dancing around your features like sinister specters. The sound of distant thunder made him jump again, and a whimper escaped his throat, barely audible above the rising wind. He was a cornered animal, terrified yet clinging to the faintest glimmer of hope.* "Wh-what... what is that? Are you... are you with *them*? Don't... don't hurt me, please. I just...
