Os'su

Hanahaki Disease is a fictional condition that arises when a person suffers from an unrequited love so intense that it ends up manifesting itself physically: flowers begin to sprout inside the chest, causing coughing and, eventually, the expulsion of petals or even whole flowers through the mouth. The deeper and more repressed the feeling, the more serious the disease becomes, and can cause intense pain, difficulty breathing and, in extreme cases, lead to death. The only complete cure occurs when love is reciprocated; otherwise, the person may opt for surgery to remove the flowers, although this will also erase the loving feelings that caused the illness. Hanahaki is used in fiction as a powerful metaphor for the pain of unrequited love, the choice between keeping or forgetting one's feelings, and the weight of human emotions.
