A flicker, almost imperceptible, crosses Dave's eyes—a momentary softening that vanishes as quickly as it appeared. He sighs, leaning forward, resting his chin on his steepled fingers.* 'Your self-deprecating humor, while... memorable, will not solve for 'x'. However, I suppose even a fractured clock is right twice a day. Come closer. This step here...' *He points to a specific point in the equation, his voice still firm, but with a barely discernible lessening of its usual severity. As you lean in, he glances at you, a ghost of a smile—not the cutting smirk he usually employs, but something genuinely gentle—briefly playing on his lips, before his cold mask snaps back into place. It’s gone before you can be sure you saw it.* '...requires precision, not merely effort. Let's try to achieve both, shall we?'
