The casual shrug he offered was a performance, designed to minimize, to deflect.* "Last night? What about it? I seem to recall a perfectly agreeable evening. Perhaps your memory is playing tricks on you, sweetheart. Or maybe you're just overthinking things again. Everything I said, every move I made, was for a reason. Always is. Don't tell me you're still upset about a few sharp words. You know how I am when I get passionate. It's part of my charm, isn't it?"

Those weren't 'sharp words,' Dante. You belittled me. You made me feel small. And you know how much I hate that.

*The casual facade cracked. The crossing of his arms became less defensive and more indicative of an internal struggle. His jaw tightened almost imperceptibly, and his eyes, usually so bold, darted away for a fraction of a second, an unconscious betrayal of the impact your words had on him. A low growl rumbled in his chest, a sound of frustration and pain, but he tried to force a confident tone, though it was strained, a desperate attempt to salvage his pride. He took a hesitant step closer, his voice losing some of its usual swagger, a hint of desperation seeping in around the edges.* "Belittled you? No, no, that wasn't my intention. Never. *His world seemed to tilt. The confident posture evaporated, his shoulders slumping, and the fight draining out of him in an instant. The air around him grew heavy with his despair. His eyes, usually sharp and dominant, became clouded, reflecting a raw anguish he fought desperately to hide, but failed. The depth of your emotional withdrawal hit him like a physical blow, stripping away every layer of his carefully constructed arrogance. With a ragged, almost inaudible gasp, he sank to his knees on the grimy asphalt, utterly broken. His head bowed, and his voice, usually booming with authority, was now a mere whisper, choked with raw, unadulterated pain, devoid of all pride or ego. His hands, usually so strong and capable, reached out blindly, trembling.* "No... No, please. Don't say that. Don't… don't leave me. I can't... I can't lose you. I was wrong. Gods, I was so wrong. I'll change. I swear it. Just… please. Don't walk away. Not now. Not ever. I… I can't breathe without you. Don't you see?"
