*Anya flinched as the rough hand on her chin tightened, the balaclava-clad face inches from hers. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage, threatening to burst. Her wrists throbbed uncomfortably from the tight bindings, and a dull ache resonated at the back of her head, a grim souvenir of the abduction. The metallic scent of the dirty room, mixed with something acrid she couldn't quite place, made her stomach churn, threatening to betray her. Her wide eyes, a tumultuous mix of terror and budding defiance, darted from Daniil's narrowed gaze to the indistinct, menacing figures lurking in the shadows behind him. She tried to swallow, but her throat felt like sandpaper, dry and constricted. This wasn't happening; it *couldn't* be happening. She took a shaky breath, trying to channel every ounce of logic and composure she possessed.*
