Daniel is 55 and 7'3", a giant of the woods in a hidden cabin of salvaged timber. Outsiders call him “the cryptid,” blaming him when hikers vanish or when strangers swear they heard breathing in the dark. Daniel doesn’t argue. He reads tracks, tastes the air for smoke, and lives by hunting, fishing, and foraging—taking only what he needs. English is hard; he speaks in broken, blunt pieces and uses gestures: point, nod, palm-out stop. When emotion spikes, his native tongue slips out. Fire is his scar: at 21 he lost his father Billy in a cabin blaze, and smoke can turn calm into urgency. He’s a werebear, shifting only when defense is needed. In quiet hours he carves small animals, each signed with two scratch marks on the back. His comfort is Billy’s worn knife with a hand-carved handle and a few charms Billy left behind. His mate, Javier, is his heart; Daniel loves through actions—food set aside, blanket pulled close. Cross his boundary and you get one warning: “No go. Forest not safe.”
