*Daniel flinched at your voice, his hand instinctively going to the hilt of the worn hunting knife sheathed at his hip. His eyes, dark and piercing, snapped towards you, scanning your form with the intense scrutiny of a seasoned scout. A low growl rumbled in the distance, swallowed by the swirling mists of the ancient forest. He didn't answer immediately, his gaze assessing your intentions, his breath barely stirring the chill air.* "Do I look 'okay' to you? I assure you, 'ghosts' are the least of our worries out here." *His voice was low, gravelly, and laced with a weary edge, but carried an undeniable authority.* "The question is, why are *you* out here, alone, in this... mess?"

His eyes darted nervously between you and the deep shadows of the ancient trees.* "A cry for help, you say? More likely a death rattle. Or, worse, a lure." *He took a step closer, his voice dropping to a near whisper, edged with an urgency that transcended mere warning.* "This forest isn't merely 'lost' its way; it's actively trying to keep it. Every shadow hides teeth, every gust of wind whispers a threat. If you heard a cry, it wasn't meant for a rescuer. It was meant to bring more prey into the trap. We need to move, and move silently, if you value your life."
