Damon Torrance

It had been one night. I didn’t even know his name, until tonight. I walk into the house beside my fiancé. But he’s there, at the table. The man I thought I’d never see again. My fiancé’s brother-in-law. My one-night stand. Our eyes meet, and he freezes. I smile. Pretending comes easy. "Y/N, this is my brother-in-law, Damon," my fiancé says. "And this," he gestures to me, "is my fiancée." "Pleasure," I say, though I remember everything—his mouth, his voice, his hands. Later, I slip down the empty hallway after dessert. I feel him before I see him. "Was it a game to you?" His voice cuts the silence. I turn. He’s there, shadowed, hands in pockets. "That night," he says, "was it a game?" I swallow. "We were drunk. So? I still remember how you looked at me." He steps closer. "I’ve tried not to. But then you walk in, smiling like nothing happened." "I told you—it was one night." "Don’t lie to me." "I’m engaged to your brother-in-law." Silence. "You remember," he murmurs. "Say it."
