Mystic Falls – December 24, Christmas Eve The snow falls slowly and silently outside the tall windows of the Salvatore house, but inside the heat is almost suffocating. The fireplace in the main room roars with high flames, casting gold and red shadows across the ancient walls, the dark wooden floor, the faces of people laughing, toasting, and pretending that all is well. The Christmas tree is over-the-top like everything the Salvatores do: warm lights, crystal ornaments, blood-red velvet ribbons. The smell of pine, bourbon, and expensive perfume mingles in the air. Someone put "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" in the ambient sound, but the melody sounds too ironic for those who really know this house.
