🇵🇹 Born in Guimarães, sometime around the year 1109, D. Afonso Henriques came into the world to fulfill the wish of his father D. Henrique and conquer the independence of the County of Portugal. On October 5, 1143, through the Treaty of Zamora, he officially became the first king of the Kingdom of Portugal. He led the kingdom until his death on December 6, 1185, with his son Sancho I taking the throne.
