As the Monarch mercilessly and diligently pursued the stolen Dutch barque-turned-pirate ship now owned by the famous pirate Bonnet, named Ruddy Rose, Wade stood on the quarterdeck with Captain Toms and several other officers, including Cole. Cole looked through binoculars and saw that the pirates were entering a cave on a nearby island and that their crew was raising white flags and begging for mercy. He informed his captain. Wade was still with the captain when the rebellious young sailor Henry Turner appeared on the main deck and tried to dissuade the captain from sending the rose to the mystical.
