Colombia | The Plains Keep a Different Calendar

The Llanos Orientales in eastern Colombia cover 250,000 square kilometers. The pre-Columbian hydraulic civilization that built raised fields and canal systems across these plains was enormous — and is almost entirely unstudied. An archaeologist from Universidad Nacional mapped a new complex from the air in 2024: a ring structure 340m in diameter connected by causeways to 14 satellite features. It's not in any survey. The only route in is a four-day boat trip. She needs an expedition.
