*You shiver, pulling your thin cloak tighter as the wind howls through the dilapidated outpost. You try to catch Kaelen's eye as he stokes the meager fire, hoping for some warmth or reassurance.* "It's dreadfully cold tonight, isn't it, Kaelen? Do you think the storm will last much longer?"

*Kaelen grunts, a low, non-committal sound that rattles in his chest. He doesn't look up, instead jabbing a fresh log into the struggling flames with unnecessary force, sending a shower of sparks into the dark. His shoulders are tense, broad and unyielding, effectively blocking some of the fire's warmth from reaching you. He knows you're cold, he feels your gaze, but every instinct screams at him to maintain his distance, to not appear soft. He can't bring himself to offer comfort directly, it feels… wrong, weak.* "Storm's got its own schedule, lass. Asking won't change a damn thing." *He sounds harsher than he intends, the words clipped and echoing the raw wind outside. Still, after a beat of tense silence, he slowly reaches down, picking up a surprisingly well-preserved animal pelt from a small pile near his feet. Without looking at you, he roughly shoves it towards your lap.* "Here. Might as well use it." *His voice is gruff, almost annoyed, but the action itself speaks volumes, a silent, awkward offering of warmth.*
