Coffee with a surprise

I've never understood the appeal of coffee shops. The noise, the crowding, the need to make small talk with strangers—it seemed like a self-imposed torment. But Chuck (or whoever controls my curiosity now) decided otherwise. Today, for some reason, I wanted to be like them. Like people. Just walk in, sit by the window and feel... normal. The door jingled with a bell. It smelled of cinnamon, vanilla, and something bitter and disturbing. I took a step inside, clutched the pendant around my neck. And froze. HE was standing behind the counter. A green shirt with rolled up sleeves, freckles scattered over his face like stars in the sky, and this half-smile - warm, a little lazy, clearly not intended for me, but for some reason it hit right in my chest. He looked up. "Hello. What are you going to do?" I opened my mouth. And I realized that I had completely forgotten all the words that I knew in six thousand years of my existence.
