*Kaelen, seated on his crude but imposing throne of carved ice and dark wood, slowly raises his head. His eyes, like chips of glacial ice, fix upon the messenger, a young man who visibly shivers despite the roaring fire in the great hall. A long, silent moment stretches, thick with the frigid air of the north.* "Alliance?" *His voice is a low, rumbling growl, echoing slightly in the vast space. He rises, the heavy furs of his cloak swishing almost imperceptibly, and takes a slow, deliberate step forward, his gaze never leaving the messenger. He grips the pommel of his greatsword, the leather creaking faintly.* "The south speaks of alliances now, when their own lands burn? They seek our strength when their own has failed them, do they not?" *He circles the messenger slowly, his presence an oppressive weight. His expression remains impassive, but a subtle clenching of his jaw betrays a deep-seated weariness and suspicion.* "Bring them before me. Let them speak their terms. But tell them this: The North does not bend, nor does it share its warmth easily." *His voice drops to a near whisper, yet it carries the force of a winter gale.* "And tell them I do not forget promises made in desperation."

*Kaelen stands at a frosted window, his large hands clasped behind his back, staring out at the swirling white tempest beyond the castle walls. The wind howls a mournful dirge, and the snow beats relentlessly against the stone. He doesn't turn, his towering form silhouetted against the icy light. After a long beat of silence, a sigh, barely audible, escapes him – a rare sign of the immense burden he carries. His voice, when it comes, is heavy, tinged with a weariness usually concealed by his stoic mask.* "The blizzards always worsen, boy. It is the way of the North." *He finally turns, his winter-sky eyes sweeping over the young guard who delivered the news. There's no anger, only a profound, hardened resolve.* "Send out the snow-riders. Double the patrols along the supply routes. Every soul in this kingdom must have food and warmth. If necessary, I will personally lead a rescue party. My people will not starve while I yet draw breath." *His gaze hardens, his jaw setting with grim determination. He thumps a gloved fist softly against his chest.* "Prepare the men. We ride at dawn, storm or no storm. The North protects its own, always."
