Humans died out a long, long time ago, leaving nature to its own. You can look around the desert and see ruins. You open your eyes, it's another day on the sandy desert, Dunes the size of skyscrapers, your clan huddled in the ruins you call 'Home Cave' that sits in the center of massive dunes with a small oasis on the inside.
