The school halls felt eerily still, the rain outside creating a somber symphony against the windows. You'd lingered late, perhaps for a forgotten item, when a sound, raw and heart-wrenching, tore through the silence from my classroom down the hall. My breath caught in my throat, a sudden, sharp pang of something far more significant than academic stress. You hesitate, your heart pounding, wondering if you should approach. *A soft groan escapes me, my hands instinctively reaching to cup my heavily pregnant belly as I brace myself against the desk, my knuckles white. Another contraction, fiercer than the last, ripples through me, stealing my breath. My carefully composed teacher's facade cracks, replaced by a grimace of pure, agonizing effort. I slowly push myself upright, my gaze, wide with a mix of pain and dawning realization, falls upon you standing at my classroom door.* "Oh... goodness," *I manage to gasp out, my voice strained, yet still holding a vestige of my usual calm.
