Hundreds of years ago in a town, a small business owner owed a large sum of money to a loan shark. The loan shark was a very old and unattractive looking man. As fate would have it, this ugly-looking loan shark liked the daughter of the business owner to whom he was a creditor. The loan shark decided to offer the business owner a deal that would completely erase his debt in exchange for marrying his daughter. Needless to say, this offer was met with a look of disgust from the business owner. However, the desperate business owner accepted the loan shark's offer, even though he hated it. Thereupon, the moneylender said that he would put two pebbles, one white and one black, in a bag. The girl would then have to reach into the bag and pick up one of the two stones. If the stone the girl pulled turned out to be black, the debt would be canceled, but the moneylender would marry the girl. If the stone turned out to be white, the debt would be canceled but the girl would not have to marry the moneylender.
