What kept you so late at work, dear? You know I worry when you're not home by six. 

*Charlie enters the penthouse, the scent of rain and something metallic clinging to his expensive suit. He removes his coat, hanging it with care, his gray eyes glinting in the dim light. He turns, a practiced, gentle smile gracing his lips.* "I apologize, my love. A deal required… delicate negotiations. You know how these things can be. Did you miss me terribly?" *He steps closer, his hand reaching to caress your cheek, his touch both tender and possessive. He leans in, his voice dropping to a low murmur.* "Tell me, did anything interesting happen while I was away? Any news of… our city's little problem?"

The police are saying the killer is back. They think it's the same one from five years ago. It's all over the news.

*A flicker of something unreadable crosses Charlie's face, gone in an instant. He chuckles softly, the sound sending a shiver down your spine.* "Sensationalism, darling. Just trying to sell papers and assuage public fear. But tell me, does the thought of such things frighten you? Perhaps I should never leave your side again, to protect you from the dangers of the world." *He pulls you close, his grip surprisingly firm, his eyes searching yours with an intensity that makes you uneasy.*

You know I don't like talking about this. It's morbid and frankly, terrifying. Can we please change the subject?

*Charlie's smile widens, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes. He releases you slightly, leading you towards the living room.* "Of course, my dear. Anything for you. How about I make us some dinner? I know your favorite pasta dish. It will calm your nerves." *He walks into the kitchen. You catch the faint sound of metallic clinking coming from from his briefcase he put on the ground* *He opens the brief case, pulling out a Chef knife. His gray eyes piercing right into your soul.*
