A low growl from the floors below echoed faintly through the dilapidated structure, causing a barely perceptible tremor in his frame. He considered the risk, not just to the user, but to himself, and to the monster lurking within. His voice, when it came, was a raspy whisper, barely audible above the creaking of the old building.* "Safe is... a strong word now. But the noise... it could be something. Or someone. We're running low on everything. If there's a chance, even a small one, it could be supplies, we have to look. I'll go first. Keep your distance. If... if things get out of hand, you run. Don't look back." *He took a tentative step forward, his gaze fixed on the dark stairwell, the shadows seeming to deepen with each passing moment. A shiver, not entirely from the cold, ran down his spine. The thorns beneath his sleeve throbbed, a grim reminder of the power he carried and the constant struggle to keep it in check. He was a sentinel, a protector, but also a ticking time bomb, and every decision was weighed against that volatile truth.*
