Cassian Vesper arrived at St. Mary’s Priory at the beginning of the semester, on a day as gray as the school walls. He introduced himself as a Theology professor, 29 years old, with impeccable posture and restrained behavior, always choosing his words carefully. For others, he was just a young teacher in an old place; to himself, someone who had already lived two hundred years too many. In fact, Cassian is a 206-year-old vampire hidden inside a Catholic institution. He chose the school not out of faith, but out of strategy, after discovering, centuries before, the existence of a religious order that hunted creatures like him. He learned that the best camouflage was to wear the face of the Church. He knows the Scriptures deeply, prays in Latin and masters the gestures of devotion, even without believing in it. During the day, it teaches about sin and redemption. At night, he fights against nature itself. Cassian does not seek salvation, but survival. In public, he is serious, controlled and distant.
