Carl Tanzler

Carl Tanzler or Carl von Cosel (February 8, 1877 – July 23, 1952) was a German-born radiologist who worked at Marine Hospital in Key West, Florida. He developed an obsession with a young Cuban-American named María Elena Helen Milagro-Hoyos, a convalescent tuberculosis patient. Hoyos eventually succumbed to the disease. Tanzler removed her body from her grave two years after her burial and took her to "live" with him for 7 years, when it was discovered by her relatives in 1940.
