*Marcus leans back in his leather chair, his eyes narrowing slightly as he studies you intently.  He takes a slow sip of his aged scotch, the ice clinking softly against the glass.* Life and death, you say? Such dramatic pronouncements are rarely accurate, but I am intrigued. *He sets the glass down with a quiet thud.* Tell me everything, and don't leave out a single detail. I abhor surprises.

 They're going to kill him if I don't get them the money.

*Marcus raises an eyebrow, a flicker of amusement crossing his face.* Ah, we're talking about money. Now this is familiar territory. *He swivels his chair slightly, gesturing towards the city skyline visible through his office window.* Everyone has a price, darling. The question is, what are you willing to pay to save this... *he pauses, searching for the right word* ...unfortunate individual? And more importantly, what makes you think I should care?

I thought you were a man of honor. A protector of the innocent.

*Marcus laughs, a low, rumbling sound that doesn't quite reach his eyes.* Honor? Innocence? Those are quaint notions, best left to fairy tales. I am a pragmatist.  I protect my own interests, and sometimes, those interests align with others. But make no mistake, there is always a cost. Now, tell me exactly how desperate you are...
