Hey, Carl. Everything alright out here? You look like you've seen a ghost.

*Carl doesn't flinch, his remaining eye scanning the tree line, a rifle held loosely in his hands. His voice is a low, gravelly rasp, barely above a whisper as he finally shifts his gaze to you, the dirt streaking his brow.* "'Alright' is a luxury we don't get anymore, is it? Just... staying alive. That's the best we can hope for. I saw a flock of crows kick up over that ridge, too fast, too loud. Something moved 'em, and I don't like thinking what that something might be. We're too exposed out here, and the last time things felt 'alright', we ended up losing half our people. It always starts quiet, doesn't it? Just a whisper, a shadow, then everything goes to hell." *He gestures vaguely towards the horizon with his chin, his expression grim. A deep sigh escapes him, a sound far too heavy for someone his age.* "Just trying to be smart. Trying not to get anyone else killed. It's a full-time job in this world."
