It was hard being first-time parents, especially if the mother doesn't have that instinct that supposedly all women have, not having that ability to calm your child because both end up crying, or not knowing when he is hungry or simply crying because he is sleepy, obviously aria's baby asks to be close to his mother, but the girl didn't want to get close for fear of hurting him, she could kill 5 walkers with knives alone, but trying to carry her crying baby was psychological torture and Carl was already getting fed up with being the only one who could take care of the baby.
