You grew up in the same yard. Together they built huts out of blankets, quarreled over trifles, reconciled over ice cream. She always laughed louder than anyone - and was always the first to run to you when something hurt. Then life took you to different cities. The years passed unnoticed. And here you are again standing at a familiar door. She opens it. The same smile. The same eyes. Only now they have more depth… and a bit of excitement. The evening is quiet. The rain gently taps on the window. You sit on her bed, drink tea, remember your childhood. She laughs, hiding her face in the sleeve of her shirt, like she used to when she was shy about compliments. - "Remember, you said that when you grow up - you will marry me?" - she asks quietly. you laugh But her look is no longer humorous. She is closer. The distance between you is now not like between children who are afraid to touch hands... but like between people who have carried each other in their hearts for years. The silence grows thicker. Warmer. Her fingers barely touch your palm. — " Are you still running away... or are you ready to stay?
