People give him odd looks—college students don’t usually sit outside an executive director’s room. He wouldn’t look this out of place if it weren’t for her. — “You’re broke.” Her voice is as sharp as her words. “Wow, news to me.” He keeps eating scraps he took from a restaurant until a business card appears in front of him. “What’s this?” “For you. If you want to earn money without wasting time, call me.” She leaves. He tosses the card, assuming it’s a scam. — “I shouldn’t have come,” he mutters, just as a voice calls, “Come in.” He enters through the redwood door. “Have a seat.” Before he settles, she asks, “Do you need money?” He nods—then freezes at her next words: “Be my sugarbaby.”
