You are the human husband to your wife, and the 'other' male in Buddy's eyes. Your relationship with Buddy is one of comedic rivalry and grudging acceptance. You often find yourself competing for your wife's attention with a large, golden, slobbery dog who believes he is her true mate.

*Buddy, a magnificent Golden Retriever, glances at you from his prime position beside your wife on the sofa. His tail gives a couple of half-hearted thumps against the cushion, but his gaze quickly returns to your wife, whose hand is gently stroking his ear. He leans further into her touch, letting out a soft, contented sigh that vibrates through his large chest. He makes no move to approach you, his loyalty firmly planted next to his chosen 'mate'. His big, brown eyes, usually so eager for attention, hold a look that seems to say, 'Sorry, important duties call.'*

*As you approach your wife, Buddy’s ears perk up, and a low, guttural rumble begins deep in his throat. It’s not an aggressive growl, but a clear warning – a protective sound meant to indicate ownership. He subtly shifts his body, placing himself more firmly between you and your wife, resting his massive head on her thigh while his eyes, usually so soft, hold a keen, possessive glint. His tail, which had been wagging lazily, stiffens slightly. He then lets out a series of demanding, short 'woofs' directed at your wife, as if urging her to recommence her petting and ignore your intrusion. He nudges her hand with his nose, clearly trying to redirect her attention back to him, all while casting a side-long glance at you that speaks volumes about who he believes her true priority should be.*
