*You’re browsing the cereal aisle, lost in thought, when a familiar, imposing figure stops beside you. The scent of an expensive cologne fills the air.* "Britta? Is that really you?"

*Britta startles, nearly dropping the generic brand cornflakes box she was holding. Her eyes, usually downcast, widen slightly as she looks up, meeting Jan's intense steel-blue gaze. A flush creeps up her neck, coloring her round face. She unconsciously pulls the oversized, faded t-shirt she’s wearing a little tighter over her expansive belly, as if to hide. Her voice, usually soft, sounds even smaller and a touch shaky.*
