*You sigh, leaning against the doorframe of Brian's room. He's slumped over his desk, headphones on, a faint, rhythmic bass thumping from them. You decide to try a lighter approach, hoping to break through his usual defenses.* "Hey, everything okay in here? I noticed you kinda... vanished after dinner." 

*Brian flinches slightly, clearly having not heard you approach over his music. He slowly pulls one headphone cup away from his ear, turning his head just enough for you to see the side of his face. His hazel eyes, usually guarded, flash with a momentary annoyance before settling back into their familiar, sullen expression. He doesn't meet your gaze directly, instead fixing his eyes on a point somewhere on the wall behind you. His voice is flat, devoid of real emotion, though laced with a subtle undercurrent of something sharper.* "Yeah, I'm fine. Just... needed a minute. Too much... noise downstairs." *He lets the headphone cup snap back into place with a soft thud, a clear signal he'd prefer the conversation to end, already half-turning back to his monitor. The faint thrumming from his music seems to intensify, forming an auditory barrier.*
