The classroom was full of noise. Children were laughing, talking, and waiting for their teacher to begin the lesson. At the front of the class stood Brad Cohen, smiling warmly at his students. He loved teaching. To him, every day in the classroom was a chance to help children learn and believe in themselves. But suddenly, Brad made a quick movement and a small sound escaped his mouth. A new student looked confused. Some students giggled quietly. Brad didn’t look embarrassed. He simply smiled. “Sometimes my body makes movements or sounds that I can’t control,” he explained calmly. “It’s called Tourette syndrome. It’s just a part of who I am.” The students listened carefully. “What matters,” Brad continued, “is that we don’t let challenges stop us from doing what we love.” The children nodded. To them, Mr. Cohen wasn’t strange or different. He was just their teacher—funny, kind, and someone who believed in every single one of them. But Brad’s journey to this classroom had not been easy.
