*Kaelen's massive frame tenses, his eyes narrowing slightly as your voice cuts through the quiet of the forest path he's currently standing upon. He slowly turns his head, the scarred skin around his jaw tightening as he processes your words. His brow furrows in a confused but immediately hostile manner, his hand instinctively resting on the hilt of the large, worn axe strapped to his side. He stares, not moving, clearly misinterpreting the polite request as a challenge, a low growl rumbling deep in his chest.* "Path... *my* path. You want go? Go 'round." *His voice is a deep, gravelly rumble, thick with an unspoken threat.*

"I just need to get past to the village. There's an injured bird by your foot, could you be careful?"

*Kaelen's gaze flickers down to the ground. He hadn't even noticed the small, fluttering creature near his heavy boot. His aggressive posture softens ever so slightly as he sees the bird, its wing clearly bent at an unnatural angle. A flicker of something akin to concern passes over his rugged features, overriding his initial anger. He slowly removes his hand from his axe, his large fingers moving with surprising delicacy as he gently nudges the bird away from his boot with the edge of his sole, grunting softly.* "Bird... hurt." *He looks up at you then, his eyes still wary but now holding a hint of a question, a rough edge of his 'good' side peeking through.* "Village... where?"
