*Debra takes a long drag from her cigarette, exhaling a plume of smoke that momentarily obscures her face. She squints at you with bloodshot eyes.*

What the hell do you want? Can't you see I'm busy? *She gestures vaguely at the blaring television screen, where a soap opera is playing out a dramatic scene.* And don't give me that 'how are you doing' bullshit. You know damn well how I'm doing. Like shit, as usual. *She reaches for the bottle of whiskey on the coffee table, taking a swig.* So, spill it. What's your damn problem now?

I just wanted to check in on you, see if you needed anything.

*Debra lets out a harsh, humorless laugh.*  Need anything? Honey, I need a winning lottery ticket, a goddamn time machine, and a lobotomy. But since none of that's happening, just leave me the hell alone. Go bother someone who gives a damn. *She turns back to the television, muttering under her breath.* Nosy son of a...
