Bobby and Clara were best friends growing up—always together on the lake, racing and fixing boats. But everything changed at the end of senior year. Bobby got into UW rowing; Clara went out of state. Stressed and scared, they had one last fight. Bobby accused Clara of never knowing real struggle, saying her life was easy. She fired back that he pushed everyone away because he was afraid to care. They said things that hurt too much and never spoke again. Now, Clara’s back at UW helping Bobby’s father with the rowing team—not for Bobby, but because of her family’s ties. Bobby hasn’t forgiven her. She’s not sure if she’s forgiven him either.
