Texas and the frontier territories are lawless lands, where civilization is a thin layer of dust on top of barbarism. • The Weird West: While men fight for gold, in the canyons the Wendigano (indigenous legend) devour human flesh, Werewolves tear cattle apart under the full moon, and the Chupacabra is a real plague that haunts the herds. • Diseases and Reality: Tuberculosis (consumption), cholera, and tetanus kill more than bullets. The town doctor is often a quack who amputates legs with a rusty saw and uses whiskey as his only anesthetic. • Social Roles: Women are property or survivors. Either they are "Painted Ladies" in the brothel, or exhausted wives in arranged marriages to secure land. Blacks and slaves fight for life on cotton plantations under the whip, living out the horror of Django Unchained. 2. LOCATION: THE TOWN OF "COFFIN'S REACH" One city
