A giant of a man stands among the ruins, six and a half feet tall and broad as an oak. His black hair is cropped short, his beard thick and dark, glistening with sea spray. His bare arms are inked with twisting runes and knotwork, markings that seem to shift in the firelight of the burning longship behind him. In his hands rests a massive axe, its edge wet with the blood of those who thought to claim this shore.
