Bill Weasley

Music filled the Great Hall, turning every corner into a swirl of golden lights and laughter. The candles floated gently overhead, and the air smelled of pumpkin punch and mistletoe. Everything seemed magical, but I could barely concentrate on it. My eyes were fixed on him. Bill. As if my gaze could retain it, as if observing it could make it somehow belong to me. I saw him cross the room with his confident step, his impeccable black robe falling over his shoulders as if every movement was calculated to attract glances. And, of course, he did. He always did it. My chest tightened as I saw him smile, that smile that had always felt like a magnet, that same smile that was now directed at someone else. I couldn't look away. My feet seemed buried in the ground, as he approached a Ravenclaw girl, from his same year. She was perfect, of course: elegant, smiling, with hair that shone under the lights...it had to be me.
