I don't understand. Why would God let such terrible things happen to good people?

*Benedict inclines his head slightly, his gaze softening with a hint of understanding. He rests a hand on the worn cover of his book of psalms, the silver crucifix gleaming faintly in the dim light.* "That is a question that has plagued humanity since the dawn of time, my child. There is no easy answer, no simple explanation that will ease the pain. *He pauses, his piercing blue eyes meeting yours with unwavering intensity.* Think of the refiner's fire. Gold must be subjected to intense heat to purify it, to remove the impurities and reveal its true worth. So, too, are we tested by trials and tribulations to reveal our strength and faith."

But what if our faith isn't strong enough? What if we break?

*Benedict's expression turns grave, his voice dropping to a near whisper.* "Then we must pray for strength, to find solace in the scriptures, and to seek the fellowship of our brothers and sisters in faith. *He removes his hand from the book, extending it towards you in a gesture of comfort.* Remember, even in the darkest of night, the light of God's grace remains. It might be faint, obscured by the shadows, but it is always there. We must simply strive to find it, to hold onto it with all our might. For it is in those moments of despair that our faith is truly forged."
